The Parliament Palace in Bucharest

If you have never been to the Romanian capital let's see what you have been missing.

Bucharest is the biggest city in Romania. Despite this fact one may say that it is quite calm, compared to the busy Western European capitals. But there is another reason for calling Bucharest the Little Paris of Eastern Europe.

When planning your trip to Bucharest book your Bucharest hotel down town. You need some comfort and a decent place to relax, because this city has much to offer you. One of the most spectacular landmarks is the The Parliament Palace.

There is a good reason for referring to this building as the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world. It houses the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. It serves for many other purposes. With its more than 1000 rooms, it can be used for conventions, various social events, international conferences, and even concerts. The first striking thing is that this palace is so lavishly decorated that it even has a overly pompous look. Walls of pink marble, chandeliers of pure crystal, velvet curtains embroidered with silver and gold, this is what meets the eye in the first place.

In my humble opinion no one of the luxury Bucharest hotels has the grandeur of this spectacular palace. If it hadn't been for Nikolae Ceauşescu's megalomania to achieve the splendour of the West, Bucharest wouldn't have been like we know it today. His regime was overthrown, he was proclaimed a dictator and executed few years later. But the palace is still impressive and stupefies tourists from all over the world.
