Welcome to Paris: Ile de la Cité

You now have the chance to set off on trip around Paris, by first visiting the exact area where it all started centuries ago. Paris as we know it today emerged on the so-called: Ile de la Cité on the left river bank of la Seine. Let's take a closer look.

Surprisingly one can notice Notre Dame when looking through the window of Hotel la defense. The monstrous Gothic cathedral marks the oldest part of the city of light. When embarking on a journey on the left bank  of the River Seine, you'd better wear comfortable shoes and not exhaust yourself walking. The metro is one of the most convenient means of transport, and , luckily, you are in Paris, the city with the best metro line as the stations are located at 500m one from another.

Get out early in the morning, after having an aromatic cup of coffee with a croissant. You will be heading towards the south districts of Paris. So if you are accommodated in Arc de Triomphe hotels catch the metro to Cité. You are now walking around the most ancient part of Paris.

La Cité has been a settlement ever since Roman times. At this very place today are some of the most grandiose buildings. One of the two isle in the River Seine now is occupied by the French Police Headquarters and La Palais de la Justice (the Palace of Justice). Both institutions are situated in the fascinating Conciergerie.

This impressive edifice is a castle built onto the foundations of the first Royal residence in the French capital. During the Revolution it served as a prison and even Queen Marie Antoinette was confined to a dungeon there.
It is quite a beautiful place and you can simply contemplate it for as long as you want. Our next journey will continue to the Sainte Chapelle.

  1. I like travelling and if I have to come to Hollywood to make a movie I will, but otherwise I'd never move there. It's very much an industry town and that doesn't really interest me. Flights to Freetown
