Architectural Photography in London

With some of the most advanced technologies in the world being applied to metropolitan architecture, London remains one of the top ten cities in the world which lures and entices photographers to attempt to capture it’s varied charms on film or digital photography. With so many avenues to explore from the profusion of historical sites or the more exciting metal and glass modern marvels, London offers opportunities few other cities do, in the field of architectural photography.
The history buffs are content with chronicling the buildings used in the past to house both peasants and royals alike, and their affinity is easy to understand. There are few cities with as many historical legacies waiting to be captured on film. But just as there are those that enjoy dwelling in the past, some are more content to look forward into the future. And the city offers plenty of opportunities to catch those glimpses. For scale alone, one would be hard pressed to find a building that offered more formalistic viewpoints of interest than the new complex that will be housing the swimming competitions in the 2012 games. Flowing lines, stark contrasts and a scale that must be seen to be believed the London Aquatics center is a photographers dream. Additionally in the center of town one can find modern metal and glass marvels of engineering in building such as 30 St. Mary Axe, also known as “The Gherkin”. This architectural gem rises out of the city like.well…a gherkin pickle, but the lines and lights and shapes are what give the building its modern charm. Night photography would lend itself well to capturing the spirit of the future exuding from this building.

Attempting to photograph London in a weekend would simply be a fools venture, so it’s generally recommended that visitors attempt to spread out their time in London and perhaps find temporary housing so they wont be at the mercy of the package tour crush. If you can find a holiday apartment London will be much more accessible to you and you’ll have the time to do everything at your pace. From a home base such as rent holiday apartment London will begin to feel more like home than a simple layover vacation spot, and that’s the only way to see the city properly.

  1. You’ve got to push yourself harder. You’ve got to start looking for pictures nobody else could take. You’ve got to take the tools you have and probe deeper. Flights to Manila
