The Carnival of Venice

Venice is very beautiful city full of romantic places and interesting historical sights. But except the monuments and the landmarks that deserve to be seen in the City of Bridges, there are events that also deserve to be attended as the Carnival of Venice.

It was brought back by the Italian government in 1970s but it once started as a celebration between the classes when everybody was wearing masks to hide its social belonging. It is now one of the most visited events in Italy with over 30,000 visitors each year.

The festival occurs every year starting two weeks before Ash Wednesday and ending just a day before. The main idea of the carnival has always been the wearing of a mask. It was allowed to wear them not only then but during certain periods of the year, too so people have been living in disguise for longer. There were also special people who made them called mask-makers. They had a special position in the society and also had their own statue dated 10 April 1436.

You can enjoy the spirit of the festival if you visit the city in the time before Eastern. Make a reservation in one of the luxurious hotels in Venice and feel the atmosphere of the celebration. Have a wonderful gondola experience or take the luxury romance package offered by the best Venice hotels.
