Welcome to Paris: Ile de la Cité -Sainte Chapelle & Notre Dame

We continue strolling around the city of light. The last time we were  in the oldest part of Paris - La Cité. Our journey today will take us to Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame - the emblematic cathedrals in Paris.

After a good cup of coffee in hotel orly I am impatient and ready to explore the French capital. It is not possible to see it all in a day or two, but let's see what we can do.
Just behind the monstrous Conciergerie building is the magnificent Sainte Chapelle. Its sharp silhouette points to the sky and represents its Gothic style. When you get inside you will admire this high-vaulted brightly coloured architectural masterpiece. It was built in 1264 in accordance to the order of Louis the Saint, king of France. The picturesque stained-glass work is one of the most spectacular in Europe.
Sainte Chapelle is famous for its chamber concerts and other musical events.  If you want go to such a concert check the schedule.
We are now heading to Notre Dame. It is often called the cathedral of Paris. It was built in 14th century. The monstrous building was the scene of important events in French history such as the crowning of Napoleon I for Emperor of the First French Empire. History is represented by numerous sculptures on its two walls. 29 chapels fill the cathedral and contribute to real holy experience. The Pieta statue, easily spotted near the central altar was custom-made for the King Louis XIII. The mystical atmosphere is really worth seeing.
Now its time to feast your eyes on medieval beauty, before going back to your hotel cdg.
